Thalita Kumi
What began as a simple Christmas toy run in 2022 has grown into a movement of hope and transformation for families in the outskirts of La Paz, Bolivia. Thalita Kumi was born from a deep conviction that every child deserves the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their circumstances.
Our founders, Carmiña Santamaria and Mark Lorkowski, bring together a unique blend of high-tech entrepreneurial experience and heartfelt commitment to social impact. For Carmiña, this mission is deeply personal. Growing up in La Paz, she witnessed the daily struggles of families trying to make ends meet – children working alongside their parents on busy streets, mothers navigating high-traffic areas with little ones in tow, selling whatever they could to survive another day.
What We Do
We meet families where they are, understand their challenges and economic difficulties, and walk alongside them on their journey. Beginning in Kupini, La Paz, we're developing a holistic model—strengthening family stability and creating networks of support—with the vision of reaching communities across Bolivia.
From providing essential school supplies and meals to hosting bi-monthly gatherings, every action is designed to build genuine community. We bring families together to share their burdens, celebrate their victories, and support each other through life's challenges.
Today, we walk alongside 20 families representing 55 children—our founding community and the beginning of something much bigger.
Mission
Thalita Kumi walks alongside families facing economic hardship through community building, compassionate connection, and committed support. We remove barriers that families face—from accessing education to meeting basic needs—while creating spaces where parents and children feel supported and valued.
